Separation of Variables

Separation of Variables

If the DE is 1st order, probably the most preferred technique to solve the DE is called separation of variables. To use separation of variables to separate the the independent variable (usually x) and dependent variable (usually y) on opposite sides of the equal sign, including the differentials dx and dy. Then integrate both sides to reveal the solution to the differential equation. If the variables cannot be separated, separation of variables cannot be used.
