Many fractions may in fact represent the same ratio. For example eating 4 slices of a pizza cut into 8 slices (which would be represented by the fraction 4/8) is equivalent to eating one half of the pizza. So, 4/8 = 1/2. Typically anytime we work with fractions in a math class, we prefer to work with them in “reduced” or “simplified” form. To simplify a fraction, you are allowed to cancel any common factors that occur in both the numerator and denominator.
